While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease. Genesis 8:22
The Reforecast: the World Is Quietly Correcting Itself
The models have been re-run and downgraded, the targets are being set aside, and the Church is still being asked to stake her authority on a forecast. Here is the evidence, the sources, and the hope that cannot fail.
Seven corrections from the world's own institutions, nine retreats from the world's own governments, and the reason the Church must return to the one mission she was ever given.
By Justin Poor
Catholic Prophetic Apologist, drawing from Sacred Tradition, the Fathers, Doctors, and the Full Magisterium.
For ten years, Catholics who asked questions about the climate were told that the matter was closed, that the science was settled, that the models were reliable, and that the only remaining question was how quickly the world would submit to the programme. To question any of it was treated as a moral failing, and sometimes as a sin.
That is no longer a tenable position, and it is not tenable for a reason that has nothing to do with me: the world is correcting itself. The models are being rewritten, the projections are being downgraded, the tipping-point headlines are being walked back by the journals that published them, and the governments that once declared the transition unstoppable are now quietly delaying, repealing, and abandoning the very targets they legislated. Almost none of this is announced. It happens in regulatory gazettes and technical appendices, in amended plans and dissolved alliances.
I have gathered the record here, with every source linked so that no one has to take my word for any of it. Then I have set out the theological answer, because the evidence alone cannot free a soul from fear. Only Christ can do that, and the Church has been handed the exact truth that sets men free — and been persuaded, for a season, to trade it for a forecast.
This is not a denial that the atmosphere has warmed, and it is not indifference to poisoned water, foul air, or the poor who suffer from both. It is a refusal to let a political programme be baptised as the Gospel, and a refusal to let a counterfeit hope be preached from a Catholic pulpit. The earth is not drowning, and the Church is not a climate agency. She is the ark of salvation, and she has souls to save.

Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth.
Psalm 104:30

Reforecasts: The Models Were Asked to Reproduce the Past
A reforecast is what happens when a model is asked to reproduce a world it never saw. The physics is wound back over decades that have already happened, and the output is graded against the measured record. It is the honest test, and it is the test the alarm never wanted run in public.
What follows is the record of that correction, as the world's own institutions have published it. Not a single one of these items comes from a partisan source. They come from the journals, the agencies, and the panels that built the case in the first place.
2.5-4°C
Sensitivity, as assessed
The IPCC's own headline range, below the top of the CMIP6 spread
Unlikely
AMOC collapse this century
Nature (2024) and Nature Geoscience (2025)
3rd
Warmest year, 2025
Cooler than 2024, per Copernicus and the WMO

The models that produced the loudest alarms run hot
What was claimed
The newest generation of climate models projected futures many times worse than anything the atmosphere has produced, and the headlines were built on those projections.
What the record now shows
The IPCC's own Sixth Assessment Report acknowledged what its authors named the "hot model problem" and weighted or set aside the high-sensitivity models rather than average them in. The assessed range of climate sensitivity (2.5-4°C) sits far below the top of the CMIP6 spread (up to 5.7°C).
Constrained by observations, the projections come back down
What was claimed
Warming is locked into the high end of the model range, and the future is already written.
What the record now shows
The most recent work in this field constrains projections against the measured record. A 2026 study in Earth System Dynamics reports that observationally-constrained warming projections align more closely with the older, cooler CMIP5 ensemble median than with the CMIP6 models the alarm was built on.
The collapse of the Atlantic circulation does not happen this century
What was claimed
The Gulf Stream is collapsing, Europe is about to freeze, and the tipping point may already be passed.
What the record now shows
A 2024 study in Nature found that Southern Ocean upwelling sustains a weakened AMOC even under extreme forcing, concluding that "an AMOC collapse is unlikely this century". A 2025 study in Nature Geoscience reached the same conclusion from observational constraints. The tipping point headline outran the papers it was drawn from.
The reef was written off. The surveys say otherwise
What was claimed
The Great Barrier Reef is dead, or dying by mid-century, beyond any hope of recovery.
What the record now shows
The Australian Institute of Marine Science reported in August 2026 that hard coral cover rose in the northern reef (from 30.0% to 35.1%) and the central reef (28.6% to 31.6%), with the southern reef essentially unchanged, and that "bleaching impacts can vary markedly between events and do not always result in substantial coral mortality". The reef is under pressure, and it is also more resilient than the obituaries allowed.
The glaciers were said to be gone by 2035
What was claimed
The Himalayan glaciers will have disappeared by 2035, and the claim was cited in the report literature and repeated by governments.
What the record now shows
The 2035 figure was eventually traced to a non-peer-reviewed source, and the panel itself acknowledged the error and formally corrected it. A claim that had been treated as settled science turned out never to have been science at all.
Fifty million climate refugees by 2010
What was claimed
The world would see tens of millions of displaced people within a single decade, and the figure was repeated by United Nations bodies and by campaigners as fact.
What the record now shows
No such migration occurred. The prophecy was quietly abandoned rather than announced, and its origin was tracked back to a single non-peer-reviewed estimate.
The record itself: 2025 was cooler than 2024
What was claimed
Warming is accelerating and there is no way back from the trajectory.
What the record now shows
Copernicus and the World Meteorological Organization confirmed that 2025 was the third-warmest year on record, 0.13°C below 2024 and marginally below 2023. Berkeley Earth independently reached the same conclusion. The acceleration narrative rested on a single El Niño year.
Let me be scrupulous. None of this means the atmosphere is not warming, and none of it means pollution is harmless. The measured record does show a warming world, and stewardship is a real duty. What the record shows is narrower and much more damaging to the alarm: that the specific claims used to bind consciences and rewrite economies were model outputs presented as measurements — and the model outputs have since been revised, weighted down, or withdrawn.
A forecast is a guess about the future that has been dressed in the certainty of law. When it is wrong, the honest thing is to say so out loud. That is all I am asking of the agencies, the panels, and the pulpits that repeated them.
A reforecast is a confession. The system is asked to reproduce a past it never saw — and the answer is graded, whether it flatters the alarm or not.
Why the model record matters
The Steelman Kit
Answering in Charity: Six Objections, Six Answers
A steelman is not a slogan. It is the strongest form of the other person's case, stated fairly, and then answered from evidence and from the faith — without mockery, without contempt, and without surrendering an inch of truth. Most people who hold these positions hold them in good faith and out of real concern. Treat them as neighbours, and answer as one who loves them.

"The science is settled."
What is settled is the basic physics of a greenhouse effect and the fact that some warming has occurred. What is not settled is the magnitude, the attribution, the future, and above all the policy. The IPCC's own authors named the hot-model problem in the newest generation of models and weighted those models down rather than using them. When the people who write the reports tell you which of their models to distrust, that is not a denialist talking point.
"Ninety-seven per cent of scientists agree."
Agreement is not evidence about the answer; it is only evidence about the company. The famous figure was derived from a small sample of abstracts, rated by the authors of the study themselves, and it has been contested in the peer-reviewed literature ever since. And no percentage, however large, can bind a conscience on a matter of prudential judgement.
"The reef is dying, and the Atlantic circulation is collapsing."
Those are the two loudest images in the canon, and both have been corrected by the bodies that own the data. The Australian Institute of Marine Science reported rising hard coral cover in the northern and central reef in 2026, and two separate peer-reviewed studies in Nature and Nature Geoscience found an AMOC collapse unlikely this century. Ask which agency is telling you the reef is dead, and whether that agency has ever been required to correct a headline.
"The Church has spoken. To question it is disobedience."
The Church distinguishes Revelation from prudential judgement, and she has always said so. The assent of faith attaches to what she defines; the ordinary teaching of the Church in faith and morals asks for religious submission of mind; and judgements about policy, economics, technology and contested empirical claims about the future are not binding at all. Donum Veritatis explicitly recognises the freedom of the faithful to differ on prudential matters, in charity.
"It is all for the poor."
Then explain why the cost lands on the poor first. Higher energy prices, dearer food and fertiliser, factories that move offshore, resource towns told to transition by people whose own salaries do not depend on them. And explain why the authority always moves upward — to commissions, funds and rating agencies nobody can vote out. A programme that prices the poor out of heat and light cannot claim the poor as its justification.
"We have only twelve years."
The deadline has been announced and re-announced for four decades, and each time it passes it is quietly reset rather than repented of. A faith whose hope depends on a countdown is not the faith of the Church. Our hope is not a window of years; it is a Person, and He is coming.
The Rule of Tone
Speak as a son or a daughter of the Church, never as a scold. Concede what is true, refuse what is false, and give the person in front of you facts they can check for themselves and a hope they can actually hold. The goal is not to win the argument. The goal is to hand them back their freedom.

The earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.
Psalm 24:1

The Targets Are Being Set Aside
The retreat is not being announced from pulpits. It is being announced in regulatory gazettes, in revised standards, in summit texts that quietly delete the words, and in alliances that close their doors and issue no statement. Nobody wants to be the one to say aloud that the programme has been abandoned, so it is being abandoned in the fine print.
Read the last eighteen months, and read them in the order the institutions themselves published them.
The legal basis for regulating carbon was rescinded
In February 2026 the Environmental Protection Agency finalised the rescission of the 2009 Endangerment Finding and repealed the vehicle greenhouse-gas standards built on it, describing it as the single largest deregulatory action in American history. Notably, the final rule abandoned the proposed attack on the underlying climate science and rested on statutory authority instead — the argument was made about law, not about physics, and the regulation went anyway.
EPA — final rule, February 2026The 2035 ban on combustion engines was dropped
In December 2025 the Commission proposed replacing the 100% zero-emission requirement for new cars with a 90% reduction target, allowing plug-in hybrids, range extenders and combustion vehicles to survive beyond 2035. Months earlier it had already weakened the 2025 interim target by allowing carmakers to average compliance across three years, adopted in June 2025.
Reuters — EU drops the 2035 banThe fossil-fuel roadmap was removed from the final text
Eighty-eight countries pushed for a commitment to transition away from fossil fuels in the Belém outcome. The final decision contained no roadmap, no fossil-fuel language, and no subsidy-reform text, and the flagship "Belém Mission to 1.5" was weakened on the floor. The transition that was said to be unstoppable could not survive a single negotiating week.
IISD — COP30 outcomeThe Net-Zero Banking Alliance dissolved
After an exodus of the largest American banks and several Canadian ones — representing roughly 22% of the alliance's assets — the UN-sponsored alliance voted in October 2025 to wind itself up. In the same season, the Science Based Targets initiative moved to allow expanded use of carbon credits in corporate net-zero plans over the objections of its own technical staff.
Reuters — NZBA foldsThe national net-zero commitment was abandoned
The long-term strategy and net-zero target submitted to the UNFCCC in 2021 were withdrawn, and the climate framework built over two administrations was dismantled by executive action.
Climate Action Tracker — US net zero targetsThe Prime Minister has conceded the targets will be missed
The consumer carbon tax was repealed, the oil and gas emissions cap was dropped, and the government publicly acknowledged that the country will miss its 2030 and 2035 targets. These are not the words of a nation locked into an inevitable transition.
Climate Action Tracker / NewClimate analysisFarm emissions pricing abandoned; the methane target rewritten
The government confirmed in a January 2026 amendment that it will not proceed with on-farm emissions pricing by 2030, and reduced the 2050 biogenic methane target to a range of 14-24% below 2017 levels. The policy that would have forced the costliest change onto farmers was withdrawn.
NZ Government — second emissions reduction plan addendumThe heating law was repealed
The Climate Change Act was weakened in May 2024, and the Heating Act — which would have compelled households to install renewable heating systems — was repealed and replaced with a less prescriptive Building Modernisation Act. The country that led the green transition is now walking back the parts that touched ordinary homes.
Climate Action Tracker — Germany, policiesNo 2035 target submitted, and the Coalition has abandoned net zero
Australia has yet to lodge a 2035 target, and the parliamentary Opposition reversed its own 2021 net-zero commitment entirely. At home, the argument is no longer whether the transition will happen but who will pay for it, and how quickly the country's industry and households can bear the cost.
Climate Action Tracker — AustraliaThese are the same governments and the same institutions that told the world, and told the Church, that there was no alternative. The alternative has now been priced, and it was found unaffordable — not by dissidents or deniers, but by the treasuries and the voters who were told the bill would never come.
This is the point that matters pastorally. The Church was urged to stake her credibility on a programme that the world is now quietly dismantling. Every Catholic who repeated the line that the science was settled and the policy inevitable has been left holding a promise that the promisers have themselves dropped. The Church should never again let herself be positioned where she must defend a forecast.
The targets were never physics. They were politics — and politics can be repealed by the people who once voted for it.
The distinction nobody wants to make in public

No committee holds the world in being. That office belongs to One who has held it since before the stars.
The question the programme cannot answer
The Theology of Creation
Creation Is Held in the Hands of Christ
Everything in this reflection rests on a truth that the world's panic cannot touch and cannot see: the cosmos is not a machine left running on its own, and it is not a system we are holding up. St. Paul says that in Christ all things were created, and in Him all things hold together; the Letter to the Hebrews says that He sustains the universe by the word of His power.
St. Thomas Aquinas put the same truth in the plainest metaphysical language available to us: God is not only the cause that began things, He is the cause that keeps them in being. Creation is conserved by God at every instant; if He withdrew His sustaining hand, it would not merely deteriorate, it would fall back into nothing. The world does not continue because of its own momentum. It continues because it is held — and it is held by the One who has nail-pierced hands.
That is why the panic is not merely wrong about policy. It is wrong about the world. The Book of Wisdom says that God loves all that exists and detests nothing that He has made, and the Psalmist says that when He hides His face creatures are terrified, and when He sends forth His Spirit they are created and the face of the earth is renewed. Creation is in the hands of a Father, not in the hands of a committee.
The End of History Is Not a Tipping Point
Here is the heart of the Christian answer to climate despair, and it is not an evasion. History has an author, and He has told us how it ends. Christ will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and of that day and hour no one knows — not the angels, and not the models. The end of the world is not something humanity can schedule, accelerate, or avert. It will be accomplished by an act of God at a time God has reserved to Himself.
And Scripture has bound that ending with promises that cannot fail. After the flood, God established an everlasting covenant with every living creature: never again shall all flesh be cut off, and while the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night shall not cease. Our Lord said that the gospel must first be preached to all the nations, and then the end will come; He said that the gates of hell shall not prevail against His Church, and that He is with her always, to the close of the age. He said that unless those days were shortened, no human being would be saved — which means precisely that there will still be human beings to be saved.
The creation itself, St. Paul tells us, is groaning in labour pains, waiting not for its destruction but for the revealing of the sons of God — waiting for the redemption of our bodies at the resurrection. What we await is a new heaven and a new earth in which righteousness dwells, and the Catechism says plainly that the visible universe is destined to be transformed, not annihilated by us. The end of the story is a wedding, not a funeral.
So let me state the claim precisely, because precision is charity here. No process that human beings set in motion will annihilate the human race. The race will not be extinguished by its own emissions, because the last act of history belongs to the returning Christ and not to a tipping point — and because God has bound Himself by covenant that it will not be so. The world may pass through fire; it will pass through it at His word, and it will be remade by His hand.
History has an author, and He is not a committee, a model, or a market.

A word of balance, because I do not want to be misread. The Second Vatican Council said that we do not know the moment of the consummation of the earth and of humanity, and that the expectation of a new earth must not weaken but rather stimulate our concern for cultivating this one. The Catholic who knows how the story ends does not despise the world. He gardens it, because it belongs to his Father. What he refuses is to pretend that he is its saviour.
What Approved Prophecy Actually Says
Private revelation does not add to the deposit of faith and no one is bound to believe it. But where the Church has approved it, it is a light, and the approved light has never said that the human race will end in self-inflicted extinction. Read what was actually given.
Our Lady of Fatima (1917)
The promise given at Fatima is not a forecast of extinction but of a triumph: "In the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph," and, according to Sister Lucia, a period of peace will be granted to the world. Heaven has already told us how the story of the nations ends, and it does not end in the disappearance of man.
Our Lady of Akita (1973, approved 1984)
The approved message warns that the work of the devil will infiltrate even into the Church, that bishops and cardinals will oppose one another, and that the Rosary and the Sign of the Cross will be the arms that remain. It speaks of a great chastisement. It does not speak of the annihilation of the human race — and it tells us precisely where the real battle is.
The Divine Mercy (St. Faustina)
Our Lord told St. Faustina that before the Day of Justice He is sending the Day of Mercy. That is the shape of the times we are living in: not a countdown to destruction, but an interval of mercy in which souls can still be saved.
The dream of St. John Bosco (1862)
The Church is a ship in a violent storm, battered by every wave, and the Pope steers her between two pillars — the Eucharist and the Blessed Virgin — while the enemy's ships break apart. Then the storm ends, and the ship comes safely to port. That is the Church's own icon of her future, and it was given to her by a saint.
Notice what every one of these approved messages has in common. Not one of them describes the end of the human race at human hands. Each of them describes a Church under assault, a chastisement, a battle for souls, and then a peace that God gives. If we want to know the shape of the times, we already know it — and it is not a climate model. It is a war for souls, and a promise of triumph.
The Evidence · III
The Great Cycles: Sun, Fire, and the Machinery of the Heavens
The climate does not move in a straight line. It moves in nested cycles — from the twenty-seven day turn of the Sun, through decades, centuries and millennia, out to the hundred-thousand-year rhythms that built and melted the ice ages. A public conversation that treats forty years of instrumental record as the whole story is not science. It is a very small window held up to a very old sky.
What follows is the honest state of the science on the largest natural drivers: the Sun, the volcanoes, and the astronomical mechanics of the solar system. I will say clearly where the evidence is strong, where it is contested, and where the mainstream rebuttal is fair. A Catholic has no business overstating a case, even a true one.
The Sun keeps its own calendar
Solar variability is not one cycle. It is at least seven superimposed rhythms, and the Earth rides all of them at once. The grand minima matter most: the Maunder Minimum of 1645 to 1715 saw sunspots almost disappear for seventy years, and it coincided with the coldest phase of the Little Ice Age.

In 2020, Zharkova and colleagues published a prediction that the Sun is entering a modern Grand Solar Minimum running to 2053, with a fall in the solar magnetic field comparable to the Maunder Minimum and a consequent terrestrial cooling. Other solar physicists dispute the prediction. I set it out as what it is: a contested forecast from published work, not a settled fact — which is exactly the standard the alarm has never been held to.
From the Sun into the sky, and down into the ground
Solar output is not only a number about warmth. It arrives as particles and magnetic field, and it acts on the Earth by layers. In the thermosphere it inflates and contracts the upper atmosphere through extreme ultraviolet heating, changing satellite drag by orders of magnitude; in the ionosphere it disrupts radio and navigation; at the surface it induces geoelectric fields and magnetotelluric currents in the crust itself, which is why geomagnetic storms can burn out transformers and corrode pipelines. The 1989 storm blacked out Quebec; the storms of 2024 degraded GPS for days.
The fair rebuttal from mainstream science should be stated plainly: total solar irradiance varies by only about 0.1% over a solar cycle, which is far too little on its own to explain a century of warming, and most high-energy particles are deflected by the magnetosphere before they reach the ground. That point stands.
But total irradiance is not the whole of solar forcing. The ultraviolet bands vary by several percent rather than a tenth of one percent; ozone absorbs that energy and heats the stratosphere, which then reaches down into tropospheric circulation and regional weather. The coupling to the solid Earth — including published correlations between solar activity and the length of the day — remains an open research frontier, neither established nor excluded. What is not defensible is the confidence with which the public conversation declared the Sun irrelevant and closed the question.
Fire from below: the earth renews itself
The second great natural engine is the one under our feet. Roughly four-fifths of the Earth's volcanism happens under the ocean, largely unseen, and the geological record shows a planet that has been repeatedly remade from within. Volcanoes are also the clearest demonstration that the climate can be reset in months. Select an event.

The astronomy of the heavens themselves
Above the Sun and the volcanoes sit the mechanics of the solar system. Milanković identified the three great astronomical cycles that govern the ice ages: the tilt of the Earth's axis on a roughly 41,000-year rhythm, the wandering of that axis on a roughly 23,000-year precession, and the changing shape of the Earth's orbit on a roughly 100,000-year cycle. Every ice age in the record is written in those numbers.

Inside them sit the oscillations we can measure within a lifetime: El Niño and La Niña every two to seven years; the Pacific Decadal Oscillation over twenty to thirty; the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation over sixty to eighty. The Medieval Warm Period and the Little Ice Age were not global thermostats but regional and hemispheric rhythms — and they happened before a single factory existed.
A word on language, because it matters. These are astronomical cycles, not astrology. The Church condemns divination, and the stars do not rule us; the heavens are a mechanism made by a Maker, not a fate written over our lives. The honest scientific question — whether changes in galactic cosmic rays reaching the atmosphere can alter cloud formation — has a real answer so far, and it is a partial one: the CLOUD experiment at CERN showed that ions do enhance the nucleation of new particles, but the resulting change in cloud condensation nuclei is too small to account for the cloud-cover correlation that started the hypothesis. The mechanism is real; the magnitude is unproven. That is what an open question looks like.
What This Does and Does Not Prove
Natural variability is real, large, and not fully quantified
What was claimed
The climate is driven by human emissions, and the natural cycles are a minor background effect that can safely be neglected.
What the record now shows
The published literature does not agree on how much of the twentieth-century temperature trend the Sun accounts for; a 2021 review in Research in Astronomy and Astrophysics assembled the competing estimates and concluded that the debate is still open. Volcanic forcing and internal oscillations such as the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation are now recognised contributors to the timing of warm and cool decades — which is precisely why the models must parameterise them, and why they keep getting individual decades wrong.
The mainstream rebuttal deserves a fair hearing
What was claimed
The Sun and the volcanoes explain the warming, and the carbon dioxide story is a fabrication.
What the record now shows
I will not say that, because it is not true. Total solar irradiance varies by about 0.1%, which is small. Volcanic eruptions cool the surface, and their effect fades within a few years, so they cannot produce a persistent warming trend. The long-term trend continues upward across solar minima and maxima alike. Anyone who claims the Sun alone explains the modern record is overstating the case, and I am not going to do it.
What is actually in dispute is the confidence, not the physics
What was claimed
The science is settled, the models are reliable, and the remaining uncertainty is negligible.
What the record now shows
Even the cause of the 2023-2024 temperature spike is not agreed. Different papers attribute it to different mixtures of El Niño, the Hunga Tonga water vapour, the fall in ship sulphur emissions, and the solar maximum. When the accounting of a two-year event is still being argued out in the journals, the public claim of certainty about the next century was never a description of the science. It was a rhetorical device for closing a political argument.
And none of it changes where our hope rests
What was claimed
Catholics must act now because the window is closing, and salvation itself depends on the policy.
What the record now shows
The cycles are the Lord's ordinance and His covenant: while the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night shall not cease. If the Sun keeps its own calendar and the earth renews itself from within, then the creation we live in is neither fragile nor abandoned — and the one thing it is not is a machine whose future is known to a committee. Our hope was never placed in a forecast.
God's Cosmic Plan
The Cycles Are His Ordinance — and the King Is Coming
And God said: Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven, to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and for years.
Genesis 1:14
While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease. I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more.
Genesis 8:22, 9:11
Here is what the cycles are actually telling us, and it is not what either side of the argument usually claims. They are telling us that the world is not a random machine left to run down. It is a cosmos — an ordered whole, with intervals and seasons and appointments, and every one of them set by the hand of a Maker. Scripture does not describe the movements of the heavens as fate. It describes them as ordinance, and it treats them as the handiwork of One who counts the stars and calls each of them by name.
The Wisdom of Solomon has the sage speaking of the very knowledge we have been discussing, and speaking of it as a gift of God: to know the constitution of the world and the properties of the elements, the beginning and end and middle of times, the changes of the solstices and the courses of the stars. Job asks the question that every scientist who is honest must eventually hear: do you know the ordinances of the heavens, or can you establish their rule upon the earth? The answer has always been no. We have been reading the sky with increasing clarity for four hundred years, and it remains the heavens of God that declare His glory.
Which brings us to the thing the panic cannot bear to look at. If the Sun keeps its own calendar, if the earth renews itself from within, and if the ice ages were written in the geometry of an orbit, then this planet is not the fragile clock we were told it is, and its future is not in our hands to lose. It is held, and it is held by a Person. The cycles are not blind. They are the heartbeat of a creation that is being carried — by the One in whom all things hold together — toward a destination that God chose before the stars were lit.
That is God's cosmic plan for humanity, and its centre is not an equilibrium. It is a King.
The liturgical year
The Church herself is built on the cycles. Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, Pentecost: she sanctifies the turning of the year, and by doing so she teaches that time is not a wheel but a road.
The hours of prayer
From Lauds at daybreak to Compline at nightfall, the Divine Office follows the sun the way the sun follows its course. Monks have prayed with the light for fifteen centuries, and the rhythm of the heavens is written into the prayer of the Church.
Easter and the moon
The greatest feast of the Christian year is fixed by astronomy: the first Sunday after the first full moon following the spring equinox. The Resurrection of Christ is announced every year by the movement of the moon and the tilt of the earth.
And the whole creation is not cycling forever. It is going somewhere. It groans in labour, says St. Paul, waiting with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God — waiting for the redemption of our bodies at the resurrection. The wheels are turning inside a line, and the line has a beginning, an author, and a term.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His kingdom will have no end.
The Nicene Creed

Christ the King is not a doctrine of the pious imagination. It is the content of the faith once delivered to the saints. He ascended and He is seated at the right hand of the Father, and He will come again in the same manner as He was seen to go. The day and the hour are hidden from the angels and unknown to the sciences, and that is exactly the point: no model, no mandate and no market can hasten that hour or postpone it by a single moment.
And when He comes, He will not merely judge the nations. He will transform us. This corruptible body must put on incorruption; this mortal must put on immortality, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. He will change our lowly body to be like His glorious body. What we shall be has not yet been revealed, but we know that we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is — and what eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man conceived, God has prepared for those who love Him.
Scripture then says something about the cycles that should stop us in our tracks. The promise given after the flood was that day and night, cold and heat, summer and winter would not cease while the earth remains. And in the city of God, John sees what no one could have guessed: there will be no more night, no need of the sun or the moon, because the glory of God gives it light and the Lamb is its lamp. The cycles themselves are consummated. What the heavens have been announcing by their rising and setting is finally fulfilled in the One who is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
This is a transformed existence of everlasting life, a new heaven and a new earth in which righteousness dwells, the resurrection of the body, and a wedding feast that never ends. The Catechism says it plainly: the visible universe is destined to be transformed, and we shall possess the new heaven and the new earth in which justice and peace will dwell for ever. That is the Christian future. It is not an equilibrium maintained by a treaty. It is a Kingdom given by a King.
So we wait — but not as men who are waiting for a verdict. We wait in joyful and expectant hope, as those who already know the One who is coming. We wait for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ, who will appear a second time, not to deal with sin, but to save those who are eagerly waiting for Him.
And we work while we wait. This hope does not make us idle or careless with the garden. The steward who knows the master is returning is the most diligent servant in the house, because his work is not a bid for salvation and not an insurance against doom. It is an offering of love, made by a child, to a Father whose Son is coming home.
A Prayer
Lord Jesus Christ, King of the universe and Lord of history: You set the sun in its course and the seasons in their order, and You hold the whole creation in Your hand. Free us from the fear that belongs only to those who do not know You. Teach us to read the heavens as Your handiwork and not as our judge, to love this world as Your gift, and to await Your coming with joy. Come, Lord Jesus, and bring us with all Your saints into the new heaven and the new earth You have prepared. Maranatha. Come, Lord Jesus.
Revelation 22:20
The Deception
A Counterfeit Eschatology — and the Mission It Is Stealing
Set aside the science for a moment, and simply look at the shape of the thing. A global movement has arisen that tells humanity it stands under a coming judgment; that the judgment is caused by its own sin; that salvation is available if it repents and pays; that the experts are its priests; that dissent is excommunication; and that the reward of fidelity is a paradise on earth. Every one of those elements is Christian in form. Not one of them is Christian in content.
The Catechism names this precisely. It says that before the end the Church must pass through a final trial, and that the trial takes the form of a religious deception offering men an apparent solution to their problems at the price of apostasy from the truth. And then it says this:
"The Antichrist's deception already begins to take shape in the world every time the claim is made to realize within history that messianic hope which can only be realized beyond history through the eschatological judgement."
Catechism of the Catholic Church 676
Every time the claim is made to realise within history the hope that belongs to the end of history. That is not a description of atheism. It is a description of a Christian hope, detached from Christ, relocated into politics, and given a deadline. Which is why the movement carries all the furniture of a religion, and why it produces religious behaviour in people who no longer believe anything religious at all.

What Scripture Says the Strategy Is
We are not left to guess at the enemy's method. Scripture is unsparing and specific, and what it describes is not a frontal assault on the Church. It is deception, and it is aimed at the elect.
2 Thessalonians 2:3-12
A great apostasy first, and a man of lawlessness who exalts himself, with a deception that comes "with all wicked deception for those who are to perish".
Matthew 24:24
False christs and false prophets will arise and show great signs, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.
2 Timothy 3:1-7
In the last days men will be lovers of self, holding the form of religion while denying its power — and the remedy named is not a policy, but turning away from such people.
2 Timothy 4:3-4
The time will come when people will not endure sound teaching, and will turn aside to myths. Paul's word for it is exactly the word we use: myths.
2 Corinthians 11:14-15
Satan disguises himself as an angel of light, and his servants as servants of righteousness. The most dangerous error in the Church has never looked like evil. It has always looked like virtue.
1 Timothy 4:1-2
Some will depart from the faith by giving heed to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons.
Now consider what this particular deception costs the Church, because the cost is not primarily doctrinal. It is temporal. It is a good cause, an urgent cause, a cause that lets a Christian feel righteous and busy and relevant — and it is not the mission. Paul VI saw the pattern coming fifty years before the encyclical, and he named the temptation in the plainest terms: even generous Christians, sensitive to the dramatic questions of the hour, "are frequently tempted to reduce her mission to the dimensions of a simply temporal project."
That is the whole tragedy in one sentence. The Church was given one commission: to make disciples of all nations, to baptise, to forgive sins, to feed the faithful with the Body of Christ, and to prepare a people for the world to come. When she trades that for the management of the planet, she does not gain the world's respect; she loses the world's soul, and her own clarity with it. And the souls she was sent to save are the very people who will be told, on the last day, that they never heard the Gospel because the pulpit was occupied with a forecast.
And Here Is What She Must Do Instead
Preach Christ crucified, and let that be the Church's public voice — not a forecast, not a policy, not a party.
Restore the sacraments to the centre: adoration, confession, the Mass, and the Rosary as the weapon the approved messages keep naming.
Catechise the young again. A generation that knows the four last things will not be frightened into a political religion.
Teach the doctrine of creation from Scripture, the Fathers and St. Thomas, so that stewardship is a fruit of worship rather than a substitute for it.
Refuse to bind the Church's authority to any prudential programme, and say so plainly the next time she is asked to.
A Word to the Alarmed
If you are a Catholic who has carried this fear for years, hear this gently. Your concern for the earth is not wicked, and your love for the poor is not misplaced. But fear is not a fruit of the Holy Spirit, and the Spirit of God has never once driven a soul by dread. You were not given a spirit of fear, but of power and love and a sound mind. Lay the fear down at the foot of the Cross, and pick up the Rosary instead. There is real work to do, and it is not the work you were told.

One Mission
She was not sent to save the planet. She was sent to save souls — and the planet belongs to the One who holds it.
Christ is coming again, and no model, mandate, or market can hasten that hour or prevent it. Until then the Church has one work: to make disciples, to preach the Gospel to every creature, and to prepare souls for the wedding feast. Everything else is a distraction dressed as virtue.
The Prophetic Journey · Stage 5 of 6 · The Evidence
From the alarm to the hope of Christ
Six stages, read in order. The alarm as the world framed it; its entry into the Church; the counterfeit gospel it preaches; the encyclical that carried it; the evidence that the world is quietly correcting itself; and the one remedy that is not a policy but a Person. Read in sequence, the argument ends where the Church's hope has always rested.
